‘Beyond isolated innovation: the power of collaboration’

Event information

Entitled ‘Beyond isolated innovation: the power of collaboration’, the podcast takes the form of a 12-minute interview with Gregory Ouillon, SITA’s Head of Development and Innovation for Communication Services, who stresses the need for airlines to work together to pioneer new developments that benefit the community as a whole.

Part One looks at airlines’ increasing reliance on IT and communication solutions to deliver bottom-line benefits. New technologies already in the wings include AutoID/RFID, biometrics, advanced mobility solutions, computerized air traffic management, Collaborative Decision Making, and new-generation aircraft. But amid the many exciting opportunities lie some formidable challenges...

Part Two deals with potential barriers to innovation – for example, the cost of deploying sophisticated solutions across all outstations, reduced efficiency of global supply chain through data security issues, and lost momentum because of slow industry adoption of new solutions.

Part Three urges more effective collaboration to address industry-wide issues. Ouillon argues that the highly inter-connected nature of the air transport industry means that airlines need to see themselves as part of a broader ‘ATI ecosystem’ that favours the joint development of shared platforms and services. To ensure innovation keeps pace with community needs, he argues that the industry needs a partner that not only recognizes the opportunities, but understands the constraints.
